Aldrich Hazen Ames, born as Rick Ames on May 26, 1941 was discovered of and arrested for espionage in the United States. He had worked in the CIA for 31 years previous to his arrest and had been committing treason against the US for the past nine years.
Ames worked most of his career as Directorate of Operations, meaning he was responsible for carrying out CIA spy operations around the globe. Ames was also employed by the KGB between 1985 and 1994. The intermediatary man Ames had been associated with was Chuvakhin, a KGB member.

Although Ames lived a luxurious, extravagent life, he also faced many problems. Ames had a severe alcohol dependancy causing family issues.

Maria del Rosario Casas Ames' wife was arrested shortly after her husband on the same charges.

Although Ames spent most of his career in Virginia, he had also been stationed in Rome for 3 years and Bogota, Columbia. While in both Rome and Bogota, one of Ames' KGB contacts was "Vlad" and his primary Soviet Embassy contact while in Rome was Aleksey Khrenkov "Sam II".
Ames has admitted to spying purely for money. His greed seems to have been his only motive.
