Harry Gold- In 1935, Gold began to steal industrial formulas from the Pennsylvania Sugar Company.  He had been asked by his close friend, Tom Black, to assist the Soviets with the formulas.  Gold soon began to drink heavily and was sloppy about hiding incriminating evidence.  Although Gold knew the FBI were going ot search his home, he did not try to hide any of the evidence, making many believe he had wanted to be caught.  Gold confessed to the FBI and recieved a 30 year prison term.  Gold was believed to have begun his espionage activities after being abused by his school mates for being the son of a poor Russian Jewish immigrant.  Espionage was a means of escape from his rough life.
